Learn how to make this simple and customizable DIY holiday wreath decorated with bottle brush trees!

Grapevine bottle brush wreath

I love the holidays. Christmas movies, Christmas baking, Christmas decorations, Christmas crafts… I’m a fan of it all, and the more, the better. While I haven’t quite reached the level of transforming my house into a set worthy of a Hallmark Christmas movie (there is no garland in my bathroom, for example), I am always on the hunt for new decorations, especially ones I can make myself. As I perused Pinterest this year looking for inspiration, I came across wreaths decorated with bottle brush trees and knew I could recreate the look with my own spin.

All you need is a grapevine wreath (I went with one painted white, but a natural one would be pretty too), some fake greenery, and a selection of bottle brush trees (mine were green, glittery gold, and cream colored).

Time: 30-45 minutes

Materials & Supplies:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Greenery
  • Bottle brush trees
  • Glue gun & glue sticks
The materials used to make a grapevine bottle brush wreath.

Instructions

1. Plug in your glue gun (I always forget to do this first, and then have to wait for it to heat up).

2. Lay your wreath flat on your work surface, and arrange the greenery until you are happy with how it looks. You can wrap the greenery around the wreath, or pile it artfully on the surface – I went with the pile method. Bend some lengths of the greenery in half for a more varied and layered look.

Step 3 in making a grapevine bottle brush wreath, the wreath with greenery.

3. When you’re happy with the greenery placement, begin gluing it to the wreath one piece at a time. You’ll need to press the glued parts into the wreath for the few seconds it takes the glue to dry; if you’re worried about burning your fingers, use a popsicle stick or something similar to press with rather than your fingertip.

4. Remove the bases on the bottle brush trees (this makes the trees easier to put into the greenery). Mine unscrewed, or you could snip the bases off at the bottom of the trees’ trunks. Arrange the bottle brush trees amongst the greenery. If some of your trees have glitter on them like mine did, beware; the glitter will get everywhere

5. When you’re happy with the tree arrangement, glue the trees in place by applying hot glue to the trunk and sticking that into the greenery. Continue until all of the trees are glued in place.

Step 5 in making a grapevine bottle brush wreath, the wreath with greenery and bottle brush trees.

I ended up adding a few more pieces of greenery once all of my trees were attached.

You can add as many trees as you like. I went with a smaller pine forest, but think a fuller wreath would look nice too!
